
Play by the Rules: Alabama Laws for Youth is a comprehensive juvenile law text and curriculum that uniquely fits the Alabama Course of Study seventh grade civics objectives. Its user-friendly, question-and-answer format includes a teacher's manual containing lesson plans and interactive teaching strategies. Taught as a three week unit of study, Play by the Rules has proved to be the most comprehensive law-related program for seventh grade in the United States. Play by the Rules National Project provides other jurisdictions with a "proven" program that can be implemented and replicated. This award winning crime prevention model for teaching state-specific law to middle school students, teachers, parents and community leaders is based on the Play by the Rules program created by the ACLCE in 2000. The ultimate goal of this project is to have all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories participating in the PBR program.

We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is the premier constitutional education program in the country. Developed by the Center for Civic Education and funded by the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Department of Education, the program incorporates a curriculum for upper elementary, middle, and high school students on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. A simulated congressional hearing provides hands-on experiences for students. Teachers may receive sets of materials at no cost by attending training on this program. Teen Court is a peer sentencing court for first-time juvenile offenders charged with non-violent misdemeanors. Defendants are represented and prosecuted by teens and go before a jury of peers (other teens) who decides how defendants will be held accountable for his or her actions. If the defendant completes the sentencing successfully no juvenile record is acquired. The Alabama Center for Law & Civic Education provides training and technical assistance to Teen Court statewide and administers the Teen Court program for Jefferson County. Street Law is both a curriculum in practical law for students and a program designed to train law students and legal professionals as classroom educators. Street Law can be used as a course supplement for civics and government or as a formal year-long elective. This curriculum was developed by Street Law, Inc. Civitas is an international civic education partnership funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Project Citizen is a nationally acclaimed middle school curriculum designed to involve students in the process of developing and analyzing public policy. Students examine public policy with respect to community-based issues. The entire class develops a portfolio proposing their solutions in the form of public policy and establishes an action plan for its implementation. The program is endorsed by the National Conference of State Legislatures and developed by the Center for Civic Education.
